MC Big Proof, born as Deshaun Holton on October 2 1975 in Detroit, Michigan, has been in The Source Unsigned Hype Column, has won The Source Unsigned Hype Battle, and has showed the world his talent on his first commercial break through with his Detroit homies, D12 on their debut album, Devils Night.

He went to Osbourne High School, in Detroit, and his friend Marshall Mathers (now better known as Eminem) used to skip school to come to Proof's school. Proof would set up a freestyle battle for Eminem to make some money.
Proof met Eminem when Eminem was handling out flyers for his new cd. They became close friends when they both rhymed "birthday" with "first place". Eminem and Proof have been friends ever since. Proof let Eminem sleep over in his house when Em got kicked out his house.

Deshaun first rapped under the name 'Maximum', but that changed when people started to call him 'Living Proof' cuz he was the living proof of living mc's in Detroit. "Em knocked the living off. I was like yeah!!! Proof, fuck living", he says.

Proof used to host freestylebattles on saterdaynights in the HipHop Shop, the place where most of the MC's from Detroit came to rhyme. The HipHop Shop was owned by Maurice Malone, who also owns Hostile Take Over Records (the label Proof was signed to)

In 1995 he released a cd, called 'From Death' with Da Goon Sqwad, a crew Proof was in. In '96 he started doin' some guest appearances, made a mixtape called W.E.G.O. together with Detroit dj, Dj Head. Proof released a 12" single, Anywhere, and together with Mudd and Thyme he released the 5ela - Yester Years EP.

When Eminem got signed to Dr. Dre's label, Aftermath, things didn't just change for Eminem, but things also changed for Proof.
When Eminem traveled all over the world to tour, Proof traveled with Eminem as his back up rapper. Proof also joined Eminem in various freestyles.

His first solo album will be called The Search For Jerry Garcia, and it's set to come out first quarter of 2003. The album will be released on Proof's own label, I.F. Records with backing up from (supposely) WEA (Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corporation).
